JPL hosted the Central Pennsylvania Film Commission’s “Empowerment Summit: Educate, Expand, Encourage,” to highlight the growing impact of film and video production on Central Pennsylvania’s economy last evening.

The event brought together industry leaders, government officials, and creatives to explore how the region’s film and video industry is creating jobs, supporting small businesses, and driving economic expansion.

As a Pennsylvania Qualified Stage, JPL plays a critical role in attracting productions to the region. Along with Rock Lititz, Triode, and TC Shadowlight, JPL is one of several facilities in Central PA that allow productions to benefit from an additional 5% uplift under the Pennsylvania Film Tax Credit program. This incentive is designed to make the state more competitive for film and television projects while fostering growth within Pennsylvania’s creative economy.

“With the talent, locations and production facilities, there should be a lot more film and video projects set in Central PA,” said JPL President Luke Kempski. “By hosting events like The Empowerment Summit, we can showcase the work and promote the opportunity for growth.”

The evening included a networking session that provided an opportunity for attendees to connect with key decision-makers, including professionals from local and state government, tourism offices, small businesses, and the broader filmmaking community. Programming featured insights from the Central Pennsylvania Film Commission, the Pennsylvania Film Commission, and filmmakers who have successfully leveraged the PA Film Tax Credit.

Attendees also learned how recent productions—such as Brave the Dark (Lancaster), Maybe We Should (York), and Turbo Cola (Harrisburg)—have helped put Central Pennsylvania on the map as a thriving hub for film and video production. Representatives from the region’s Qualified Stages, including JPL, also shared their perspectives on how their facilities are fostering creative innovation and strengthening the local economy.
